WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A  SLEEP STUDY?

Sleep studies are painless. The polysomnogram (PSG), multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), and maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT) usually are done at a sleep center.

The room the sleep study is done in may look like a hotel room. A technician makes the room comfortable for you and sets the temperature to your liking.

Technicians can answer questions about the test itself, but they usually can’t give you the test results.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A SLEEP STUDY?

•Appropriate bedclothes (preferably two-piece pajamas). Nightgowns and one-piece pajamas sets are not acceptable attire, and nudity is not permitted.

•If you use a CPAP bring your current mask. If you do not know your current pressure or have been instructed by your sleep physician, bring your CPAP.

•Any medications you may need during the night of the study in the original medication container.

•Prescription and non-prescription medications are not dispensed at the Sleep Center.

•Personal toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, brush, shampoo, etc.), and a change of clothes for the next day. There is a bathroom in each room with showers available.

•Reading material, a movie to watch or a laptop (DVD players and Wi-Fi available).
